Urologic Cancers — Prostate, Bladder & Testicular Cancer Treatment in Newmarket

Dr. Jerome Green MD, FRCSC — Urologic Surgeon

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Canadian men. Early detection through PSA testing and digital rectal examination remains critical, particularly for men over 50 or those with a family history of prostate cancer. Dr. Green offers prostate MRIs, prostate biopsies, MRI-targeted biopsies, and full staging workup through his clinic.

Prostate cancer treatment spans the full spectrum: active surveillance for low-risk disease, radical prostatectomy, radiation therapy coordination, and advanced focal therapy. Dr. Green is a pioneer in focal therapy through his involvement with Precision Urology Canada, which offers NanoKnife (irreversible electroporation) focal ablation — a tissue-sparing approach that targets only the cancerous region of the prostate, minimizing impact on urinary and sexual function.

Following treatment, Dr. Green provides structured post-treatment surveillance with PSA monitoring and imaging to detect any recurrence early. Each patient receives a personalized care plan aligned with their cancer risk profile, age, and quality-of-life priorities.

Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer most often presents as painless blood in the urine (hematuria), which should always be investigated promptly. As a bladder cancer specialist at Southlake Health, Dr. Green performs cystoscopy and upper-tract imaging to diagnose bladder tumours at the earliest possible stage.

The majority of bladder cancers are non-muscle-invasive at diagnosis and can be managed with transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) followed by intravesical therapy (BCG or chemotherapy instilled directly into the bladder). Dr. Green provides structured cystoscopic surveillance to detect any recurrence early. For muscle-invasive disease, Dr. Green coordinates multidisciplinary care including radical cystectomy and urinary diversion or a bladder sparing approach using radiation and chemotherapy. Patients in York Region and surrounding areas benefit from expert bladder cancer specialist Southlake Health services without the need to travel to a major urban centre.

Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer is the most common solid tumour in men aged 15–35 and is one of the most curable cancers when detected early. Symptoms include a painless testicular lump, swelling, or a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum. Dr. Green emphasizes prompt evaluation of any testicular abnormality with scrotal ultrasound.

As a testicular cancer urologist Ontario patients trust, Dr. Green performs radical orchiectomy (removal of the affected testicle) for definitive diagnosis and treatment. He coordinates adjuvant therapy — surveillance, radiation, or chemotherapy — with oncology partners based on tumour type and staging. Long-term follow-up includes monitoring for late effects and ensuring the patient's overall urological health.
